Join our collective for swing dancers in London who identify as queer/LGBT+, their friends and allies.
Our main aim is to be a social group that celebrates diversity among London’s swing dance community, to create spaces within/alongside existing swing events for group members to come together and enjoy each other’s company, hang out and meet up for meals or drinks pre/post dance events.
If you find an event you’d like to attend, please feel free to post about it on here (we may suggest creating an event, so all the info is in one place).
The space is there for us to exchange information, find out about each other, coordinate going to dance festivals, share our experiences, ideas or concerns, keep up to date about our communities and events relating to swing dance.
In the future, this may become a space where we discuss opinions on how to develop a greater sense of inclusiveness for queer swing dancers. The group may also offer room for discourse on de-gendering traditional lead/follow roles in the dance. What are the experiences of same gender or same sex dancers, ambi-dancers and switch dancers (those learning both the lead and follow roles of a social dance, transcending confining gender divisions of dance roles)? If you have an interest in this and some ideas about it, please share.
